CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A Charlotte boy is lucky to be alive, recovering in the hospital after nearly dying from a bullet wound.
12-year-old Jason Bdap was inches away from losing his life Tuesday night.
"He was crying holding his arm and he tells me that he's been shot,” Jason’s mom said.
A bullet somehow found its way inside the room of his family’s Eastcrest Dr. apartment, hitting his arm and a major artery.
"I thought him and his brother were just playing around. I thought he just broke his arm and when I really took a look at it, I saw bullet holes on his upper arm and blood was dripping, not dripping but pouring.”
His mom told FOX 46 that if Jason had been sleeping, he would have been on his back and the bullet likely would have hit his head. being on his phone probably saved his life.
“It went straight to the pillow and my son was laying down on his tummy, and placed his hands on the pillow instead of his head and instead of laying on his back. He was laying on his tummy because he was on his phone,” she said.
When CMPD officers arrived on scene, they were able to act quickly, applying a tourniquet to his arm that saved his life. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment of the wound.
Jason had surgery Wednesday morning. His mom says he is very weak but he's expected to go home in a few days. The family is still in shock.
"They saw everything, so they are traumatized.”
CMPD told FOX 46 they aren't sure if the apartment was targeted or if it was hit by accident.
