Gasontia father defends son who was caught bringing weapons to school

- An 18-year-old student has been arrested after bringing multiple weapons onto the Ashbrook High School campus, according to Gaston County Police.

The incident happened Tuesday afternoon and Justin Crane has since been released from jail.

Gaston County Police say Crane had a conversation with another student about the weapons he brought to school.

The student told police Crane wanted to hurt others and faculty at the school were notified.

Police found a sword, three throwing knives and a hatchet when searching his car.

Crane's father said his son wasn't out to hurt anyone. Crane is now under his parent's custody.

Gaston County school says they consider this a category two offense. In situations like this, the consequences could be in school disciplinary action, short term suspension of up to ten days or alternative school.

Crane's friends were surprised that he allegedly wanted to hurt others. They described him as a quiet kid.

The family has decided to get an attorney and would not discuss details.
