13-year-old charged with pulling knife on teacher at Northwest Cabarrus Middle School

- A 13-year-old student is facing charges after pulling a knife on a teacher at Northwest Cabarrus Middle School Friday, officials say.

According to the Cabarrus County Sheriff, the student pulled a knife from their bag and approached the teacher. Another teacher was able to subdue the student "within a minute."

In addition to the knife, investigators say they found an unloaded .25 caliber handgun along with detached ammo in the student's back pack. A search of the teen's home revealed other firearms, including three shot guns and three handguns.

The teen, who was not immediately identified, was detained and taken to undergo a mental evaluation. She is facing charges of felony bringing a gun onto school grounds and threatening a government official.

The student's parents have also been charged with misdemeanor failure to secure a firearm from a minor, the sheriff said.

"This type of behavior in Cabarrus County is not going to tolerated, whether it's a physical threat or copy cat," said Cabarrus County Sheriff Brad Riley. "In light of all the things that have gone wrong in our society and in the United States, we're going to hold people accountable to the fullest level of the law."

Authorities believe this to be an isolated incident.
