Representative introduces bill to legalize medicinal marijuana in NC

A new House Bill is moving through the General Assembly - proposing the legalization of medicinal marijuana in the State of North Carolina.

House Bill 983 states patients with terminal or chronic illness will be allowed to lawfully use marijuana or tetrahydroannabinols.

The proposed bill will also modify the taxation of marijuana and establish a system for taxation of medical marijuana.

House Bill 983 was filed on April 26, passed its first reading on April 28 and has been referred to the Committee on Health.

Rep. Kelly Alexander Jr. is the primary sponsor of this bill.

Note: A bill is not law until passed by the House and the Senate, ratified, and if required, signed by the Governor.
