Woman banned for 5 years from Carowinds

- A Winston-Salem woman has been banned from a popular amusement park all because of a cell phone.

According to the York County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to Carowinds around 9:22 p.m. on April 29 in reference to an assault.

A 16-year-old Carowinds employee told deputies he was operating the Boo Blaster ride when a woman, identified as Actavia Dempsey, 24, approached him explaining she dropped her phone on the ride.

The employee said he told the woman she would have to wait until after the park closed to get her phone, but he would call his supervisor and see what else they could do.

The employee told deputies the woman then pushed him out of the way and went onto the tracks of the ride. The employee said he pushed the emergency stop on the ride, and followed the woman while she got on her phone. He said the security office took over from that point.

Dempsey told police she had waited "a while" after being told she would have to wait until the park closed to retrieve her phone. She decided to go ahead and retrieve her phone without waiting. She told deputies she did walk past the employee - but did not push him.

The employee did not want to press charges.

As a result of the incident, Carowinds security banned Dempsey from the park for the next five years.
