NEWTON, NC (WJZY) - A 16-year-old male has been charged for making a threat that led to a lockdown Wednesday at Newton-Conover High School.
Police were called to Newton-Conover High School Wednesday, May 11 after students reported that a person made a threat involving a gun.
The school was placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure, according to the Newton-Conover superintendent.
No gun was found on the campus of the school, officials say. The lock-down was lifted.
The teenager was taken to the Catawba Detention Center on Wednesday.
The teen made his fist appearance in court on Thursday, May 12 where he was issued a court appointed lawyer. His next court date is set for June 2, 2016 for a probable cause hearing.
He was released early Thursday morning on a $5,000 bond.
