VIDEO: Student put in chokehold, passes out at East Rowan High School

- A fight broke out between two students at East Rowan High School stemming from cyber bullying where a 16-year-old was put in a choke hold by a 15-year-old causing him to pass out, according to the Rowan County Sheriff's Office.

Medical treatment was provided on site. 

The disagreement started on Facebook with threats made back and forth between the two students, according to the sheriff's office.

The 16-year-old was charged with cyber bullying.

The sheriff's office said more severe charges are expected for the 15-year-old. Charges are pending.

Rowan-Salisbury School District made the following statement:

“Student discipline records are confidential education records due to federal and state guidelines. We are aware of an incident at East Rowan High but we cannot answer any specific questions regarding what procedures we followed nor what consequences students faced other than to say we follow the RSS Code of Conduct.  Generally speaking, when an incident involves a potential criminal matter, we refer the matter to law enforcement.”
