Juvenile charged with starting house fire in Kannapolis

- A juvenile has been charged with starting a house fire in Kannapolis, according to fire officials. 

The fire broke out at 10:43 a.m. Wednesday, May 25 at a home located at 2400 Wellington Chase Drive. 

Upon arrival, firefighters saw the three-story house engulfed in flames. 

Despite the quick response and the assistance of multiple fire departments, the house suffered significant damage in the neighborhood of $400,00 to $500,000.

No one was at home when the fire started and the family dog was rescued by fire personnel.

Wednesday afternoon Kannapolis police charged a juvenile with second-degree arson of the home.  

Due to the age of the juvenile and the ongoing investigation, officers said no additional information will be released at this time. 

The fire has displaced six people and the Red Cross is assisting the family.
