Child Predator drives cross country to meet 14-year-old

- Boone Police arrest man who traveled across country to meet with 14-year-old.

On Friday, August 28, JP Thrower was arrested by Boone Police and charged with one count of felony attempted first degree sexual exploitation of a minor, one count of felony soliciting a child by computer and one count of felony dissemination of obscenity.

A Boone Police Detective posed as a 14-year-old girl on a popular social media site. Thrower reached out to the undercover detective who kept the identity of the 14-year-old the entire operation, according to Boone Police.

Police say Thrower was in Oregon but told the undercover detective he was coming to Boone to visit family. Thrower booked a hotel in Boone to stay for sexual purposes, according to police.

Thrower arrived at the hotel and was arrested by Boone Police. Thrower also indicated he worked on a legal marijuana farm in Oregon and had mailed a package with marijuana to a residence in Watauga County. Detectives found out the resident of the Watauga address was on probation. Police searched the home and found one pound of marijuana. Police say charges for the marijuana bust have not yet been filed.

“This individual had the forethought to seek out at least one child in North Carolina before traveling here. As a parent, this is terrifying. It is these types of crimes that can lead to missing children, human trafficking, and murder.  Parents need to know who their kids are meeting online.  This is why the Boone Police Department works so hard to stop these predators from getting to our children," said Dana Crawford, Boone Chief of Police.

Thrower is under a secured bond of $150,000 and has a pending court date September 17, 2015.
