BOONE, NC (WJZY) - A Boone man has been sentenced to serve a minimum of 5 years and 4 months, and maximum of 11 years and 5 months in prison after police said he lured a young child into a bathroom.
The incident happened in December 2014. Police said William F. Grubb lured a 5-year-old girl into the bathroom at the Michael’s store in Boone. Grubb then exposed himself to the young girl and asked her to perform a sex act.
When she refused, Grubb then asked the child to undress. Before Grubb could take any further action, police said the girl's mother was heard calling for her daughter, and the young girl was released.
Grubb was apprehended in the parking lot of the store by officers with the Boone Police Department as he tried to flee the scene.
On Tuesday, May 31, 2016 Grubb was sentenced for one count of Abduction of a Child, two counts of Taking Indecent Liberties with a minor, one count of Attempted First Degree Kidnapping, and one count of Indecent Exposure.
After his release from prison, Grubb must register as a sex offender and be subject to GPS monitoring for life. The Court also issued a permanent no contact order between Grubb and the victim.
“This is every parent’s worst nightmare,” District Attorney Seth Banks said in a statement, released on Wednesday. “I am thankful that we were able to work side by side with the victim and her parents to bring closure to this case and take another predator off the street."
