Meeting held to discuss traffic issues around Ramsey Creek Park Beach

Lake Norman officials held a meeting Thursday to discuss traffic issues and concerns surrounding the new Ramsey Creek Park Beach.

Many frustrated people showed up at Thursday evening's meeting. Neighbors who live by the beach said it's adding a ton of traffic to an already congested area.

They told FOX 46 Charlotte there's already been issues with parking, and that a nearby intersection is a growing safety hazard.

The Ramsey Creek Beach Park drew hundreds of people when it first opened up over the Memorial Day weekend. Back in 2008, Mecklenburg County voters approved more than $425,000 in bonds to make the beach possible, and construction started in 2015.

It happens to be the only beach in the entire county, and while some people who came from as far as Raleigh to check it out said it's absolutely gorgeous, the complaints have already been rolling in from those living nearby.

As a result, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation, the Town of Cornelius, and Cornelius PD met with the public at 6 p.m. Thursday to talk about their traffic and congestion concerns, as well as the installation of a traffic signal at Nantz Road and Catawba Avenue.

The meeting was held at the Cornelius Town Hall Community Room, and was open to the general public.

A follow up meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the same location.
