CMPD stepping up patrols at Islamic sites across Charlotte

- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police is stepping up patrols at Islamic sites across Charlotte including the Islamic Center on the City's east side.

While there is no specific threat, faith leaders said given what happened in Orlando they want to err on the side of safety.

Leaders said there has been negativity towards the Muslim community following the mass shooting. Local Muslims said their hearts are with those impacted by the tragedy in Orlando, and their faith discourages such a hateful act.

"We are against any killing of any human beings. Islam is clear on that. If you kill one innocent person it's like you killed all of mankind. So that's the value of human life in Islam. Islam is pro-life," Jibril Hough said.

There will be an interfaith dinner this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at 7025 The Plaza in Charlotte.
