FOX 46 Charlotte takes action for young rape victim needing a service dog

- It’s been the hardest two years for Mark and his family. Their now 5-year-old daughter Aiyana was raped when she was three.

"We're in the battle with her and all we want is for her to have a normal childhood," Mark said.

Mark is referring to his daughter’s battle with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. The night tremors, flashbacks, and angry outbursts. She was diagnosed after the rape, and her life has never been the same.

"It has overtaken her life...and all we want is the best for her," Mark explained.

FOX 46 Charlotte reached out to the family, to take action and get results for Aiyana. We found out her therapist has recommended she get a service dog to help with her severe PTSD symptoms.

"Dogs have the greatest sense of what a human goes through. They can sense when she is going to have a flashback and calm her down," Mark said.

In fact, the family has already picked out a service dog named Bella, from Alpha Canines in Sacramento, California. A certified K9 training company, specifically for those suffering from PTSD. And when Aiyana talks about Bella, she is nothing but smiles.

So now, we want the community to take action for the family, and get results for Aiyana. They have started a gofundme page to raise money to pay for Bella the service dog, and get the family out to California to pick her up.

They have a little more than $2,000 left to raise, before reaching their goal.
