Airline employee stumbles upon $100,000 worth of heroin at Charlotte-Douglas International

- An airline employee stumbled across $100,000 worth of heroin Tuesday evening inside a hangar at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Officers received a call about 8 p.m. from an airport employee about a suspicious package wrapped in brown cellophane inside an American Airlines Maintenance Hangar, according to the police report. Upon further investigation, officers determined the contents of the wrapping to be a vast amount of heroin worth approximately $100,000.

American Airlines released the following statement:

“A package of an unknown substance was discovered on an Airbus 321 during routine maintenance at the maintenance hangar in Charlotte. Upon discovery, American immediately contacted law enforcement. Our Corporate Security team is working directly with law enforcement during their investigation.”

The drugs were turned over to authorities and are being processed as evidence.

No arrests were made.
