Authorities: 2 firefighters doing well after deadly accident on Lake Norman

- The two surviving firefighters who survived the tragic accident where Captain Bradley Long died while trying to recover a body during a dive rescue are doing well, according to Catawba Co. emergency responders.

Chief Rick Davis of Sherrills Ford - Terrell Fire and Rescue said Ben Godfrey and Derek Sigmon, both firefighters and certified public safety divers with Sherrills Ford, have returned to active duty after last week's diving emergency.

Both Godfrey and Sigmon continue to grieve the loss of their friend and coworker. The fire department is thankful for the community's prayers and thoughts as the entire fire family is working through this loss and asks the media and public to continue to give everyone involved distance and allow them privacy.

The incident on June 6, 2016 is still under investigation by local, state and federal agencies.
