CMPD: Speed, alcohol factor in fatal east Charlotte crash

- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are investigating a fatal crash in east Charlotte.

Officers responded to a collision in the 4200 block of Winedale Lane. Jonathan Furr was driving a 2002 Ford Focus traveling northwest on Winedale Lane, a two lane residential neighborhood street with a speed limit of 25 mph.

Police say Furr was traveling 50 mph and crossed into the opposing lane, passing a parked vehicle on the right side of the road.

Furr hit a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta head-on traveling in the opposite direction, driven by Keyosha McVay, according to police.

When Medic responded to the scene Furr was pronounced dead and and McVay was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police say Furr was not wearing a seatbelt.

Speed and alcohol appear to be the contributing factors in the crash, according to police. McVay was charged with no operators license.
