CHARLOTTE, NC (WJZY) - A man accused of killing a Charlotte woman and setting her apartment on fire before fleeing to Nevada is back in the North Carolina area.
FOX 46 Charlotte has learned after speaking with the sheriff's office in Nye County Nevada that Mathew Benner was released to an inmate transport company used by police.
Benner was taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office Monday afternoon on July 4, where he remains in custody.
His next court dates were set for July 13 (bond hearing) and July 25 (probable cause hearing).

Last week Benner waived extradition after he reportedly confessing to killing his neighbor, Amanda Strous.
Investigators were able to find Benner by tracking his phone's GPS signal.
