CHARLOTTE, NC (WJZY) - Security is clearly visible as soon as you arrive at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport and passengers say while there is an increase in security, flying has been smooth so far.
Flights took off from the Queen City with ease on Saturday, but changes inside the terminal were evident.
Police walked the non-secure areas, or locations that are open to the public, like baggage claim.
Security outside made sure drivers adhered to the parking rules for dropping off and picking up passengers. The same increased security is being seen at airports across the country.
“Their presence was definitely there,” said one passenger.
Security at the door has increased at airports following the terrorist attack in Turkey where suicide bombers entered unsecured areas and blew themselves up.
Although security has been tightened here at home in areas surrounding airport gates, and more passengers are flying this 4th of July, TSA lines seem to be running smoothly.
“No lines at Chicago. Walked in security had 2 or 3 people and went right in. So it was great,” said James Stowe.
Although security is tight, passengers say fear won’t stop them from taking to the sky.
“I wanted to go. I don’t want to be scared and stay at home. I just think life is too good for us not to enjoy it,” said Stowe.
TSA Security lines have been short this weekend, but it is still recommended you arrive at least two hours early for your flight.
