CHARLOTTE, NC (WJZY) - Charlotte-Mecklenburg police have released more information on Jeremy Moseley, the 29-year-old police academy recruit who collapsed during training exercises on July 5.
Officers said Moseley was from Queens, New York. He attended the John Jay College of Criminal Justice and the Capital University School of Law before pursuing his call to serve in law enforcement.
He moved to the Charlotte area in 2015 to begin a career with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. He was hired by the CMPD on June 27, 2016, and was a member of the 174th Recruit Class.
Jeremy’s family recalls his commitment to community, volunteering with the Habitat for Humanity and local animal shelters. Neighbors remember him as a pillar of the community.
Jeremy is survived by his mother Zorayda, his father Lloyd, and his younger brother, Marc Anthony.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney called Jeremy “A man deeply committed and eager to serve as a guardian of our community.”
Funeral arrangements are currently being coordinated and will be released once they are finalized. The Moseley family continues to ask for privacy as they mourn this tragic loss.

The Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office released the following statement:
The Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office has completed the initial autopsy examination of Jeremy Moseley, the 29 year old police academy recruit who collapsed during training exercises in Charlotte on July 5, 2016.
The cause and manner of death are pending at this time as the investigation continues into his medical history and the circumstances surrounding his unfortunate death.
Out of respect for the family and the ongoing investigation, no further information will be released from this office until the final autopsy report is available.
A newly hired police candidate for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police collapsed during training Tuesday morning and died, according to CMPD.
The newly hired candidates were conducting state mandated physical fitness training when Jeremy Moseley, 29, collapsed.
CMPD officials immediately began to help him, Medic was called to the scene where they pronounced Moseley deceased.
He was hired on June 27.
CMPD said they're working closely with the Medical Examiner's Office to determine the cause of death.
