CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - A 17-year-old is facing multiple charges in connection to the fatal shooting of a woman this October in east Charlotte, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.
Yamina Rookard has been charged with murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Rookard's family was in the courtroom when she made her first court appearance Thursday afternoon.
On October 17 at 11:22 p.m. officers were called to the 3100 block of Central Avenue in response to an assault with a deadly weapon. As officers arrived on scene, they located Jessica Dawn Smith, 29, with an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead on scene.
The state said in court that Rookard appeared in surveillance video and her social media activity tied her to the crimes.
Rookard was arrested on Wednesday Dec. 12 following an interview at CMPD headquarters.
The judge set her bond at $500,000 for the murder charge and $50,000 for robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Her next scheduled court dates are Dec. 21 and Dec. 31.
