17-year-old killed, two others injured in Monroe wreck

- A 17-year-old boy was killed and two others injured in a wreck Monday afternoon in Monroe, police said.

The crash happened at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 11 on Secrest Short Cut Road, just east of Rock River Road near Lexie Lane.

Authorities said a 2003 Ford Explorer driven by Becker Reep, 18, of Indian Trail, was traveling east on Secrest Shortcut when the vehicle went on to the right shoulder causing the Reep to overcorrect and cross the center line of traffic.

Reep's vehicle was struck by a 1997 Toyota pickup truck driven by Jayraj Raval, 44, of Monroe.

A passenger in Reep's vehicle, Daniel Hester, 17, was pronounced dead at the scene. Reep and Raval also sustained injuries, but none were life-threatening, authorities said.

Charges are pending in this case and the investigation is ongoing.
