Mother and 2-year-old son kidnapped in Gastonia

- The Cleveland Co. Sheriff's Office is investigating an alleged kidnapping involving a woman and her 2-year-old son that occurred Wednesday evening.

The sheriff's office received a call from the mother of the victim who told them that her daughter Larhonda Laplant and her grandson were kidnapped by Rashawn Dukes.

Lenora Bridges, the mother told deputies Dukes is Laplant's boyfriend. Bridges said Laplant told her Dukes was talking to her on her cell phone and told her he was coming to see her.

Bridges said an hour later while she was outside Dukes pulled up in her driveway. He was in a yellow cab. Dukes got out and told Bridges he needed he needed to us the bathroom.

Bridges told him to go around back, when she went inside Dukes came in behind her and told Laplant she was coming with him.

Laplant told her  mother not to argue with him because he had a gun. Dukes took Laplant outside by the arm, she was holding her son.

Dukes pushed them into the cab and they left. 

The three ended up at the Budget Inn Motel in Gastonia. Gastonia Police got a key to the room, rushed in and arrested Dukes with crimes that occurred in their jurisdiction along with serving Duke with a number of outstanding warrants for his arrest.

He is now in custody. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
