2 adults, 1 child dead after drowning on Lake Norman

- Three people are dead and one remains in the hospital after a reported drowning on Lake Norman Sunday evening.

Iredell County EMS said the call came in at Lake Norman State Park just before 6:00 p.m.

“I think someone slipped or fell or went out a little further than they planned and other family members and friends of course rushed in to help or made an effort to get them out of the water," NC State Park Superintendent, Greg Schneider said.

Five-year-old, Samuel David Restrepo was pulled from the water and given CPR by a local fisherman. He was rushed to Wake Forrest Baptist Medical Hospital. He is now in stable condition and discharged from the hospital.

Two adults were also pulled from the water and taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Samuel's 11-year-old brother, Martin Alonso Restrepo and 54-year-old dad, Alvaro Restrepo died along with their 62-year-old family friend, Alba Elcy Ramos died. The bodies were recovered around 10:30 Sunday night. They're all from Statesville.

Almost 70 responders from multiple agencies rushed to the scene, including the Charlotte Fire Department dive team.

Superintendent Schneider wants to remind Lake Norman swimmers not to put their own life at risk in attempting to save a drowning victim and he cannot over-stress the importance of wearing a life jacket.
