CHARLOTTE, NC (WJZY) - Joey "Jaws" Chestnut came to Charlotte on Saturday and claimed first place in the 2nd Annual American Burger Company Roadstar Challenge in South Park.
Organizers said hundreds of fans were treated to Charlotte's first ever Major League Eating-Sanctioned eating contest.
Chestnut claimed the championship belt and $2,000 by devouring four Roadstar burgers (1.5 lbs each) in a world record time of 4:24.
Carmen Cincotti finished second in a time of 4:48. Joe "Vines" Hinostro won the amateur contest and received $500 for finishing two Roadstars in a time of 5:34.
Organizers said after the contest, American Burger Company and COO Rich Adams presented Thomas Davis with a $2,500 donation to the Defending Dreams Foundation. Fans were also treated to a free concert by One the Border, the Ultimate Eagles Tribute Band.
Major League Eating is the world body that overseas all professional eating contests. MLE conducts about 80 events annually, including the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest.
