Police: Toddler's death ruled a homicide in east Charlotte

- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is investigating the sudden death of a toddler in east Charlotte. 

Officers said at 11:35 p.m. Monday, July 25 a 2-year-old boy was found unresponsive in his home along the 4900 block of Farm Pond Lane. 

The toddler was transported to Presbyterian Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. 

Homicide Unit detectives began an investigation, and in consultation with the Medical Examiner's Office, detectives determined the child was physically assaulted which led to his death.  

The death investigation is now being classified as a homicide. 

According to police, there are several adults who were in the position to provide care to the child in the days leading up to his death. 

As part of the detectives continuing  investigation, detectives are interviewing these caregivers and gathering evidence. 

This case remains active and open. No arrests have been made at this time.
