Rock Hill woman charged after leaving puppies in car while in restaurant

- A woman was arrested after leaving two puppies in her car while she went to eat inside an Olive Garden on Friday, according to Rock Hill Police.

Officers responded to the Olive Garden off John Ross Parkway in regards to puppies locked inside a red Nissan Quest.

When officers arrived they met with two witnesses who were under a tree with the puppies.

Officers said the puppies were around 6 to 8 weeks old and crying loudly.

One of the witnesses told the officers they heard a screaming sound coming from the van and noticed the puppies under the passenger seats on their backs.

Officers said the windows were cracked and the witnesses waited ten minutes before reaching into the car to unlock it and let the puppies out.

The temperature inside the van was well over 100 degrees, according to officers.

Officers identified the driver of the car as Heather Sutton, 21. She told the officers that she was inside Olive Garden eating for the last 30 minutes and she left the two puppies in a box in the front passenger seat.

Sutton was arrested and charged with III treatment of animals. York Co. Animal Control arrived on scene to care for the puppies.
