Tax Free Spending Spree starts in South Carolina

- “It’s always good to save a buck here and there,” Faye Sevel said.

Tax free weekend has arrived in South Carolina.

“It’s great.  Tax free weekend is awesome,” Kim Burke said.

Since midnight, shoppers in South Carolina have hit the stores to take advantage of the savings. For Walmart it is their second busiest weekend.  Only black Friday brings in more business.

“There is so much money that is being spent, it adds up and up and up. That bill can get higher and higher, so any relief you can get on a tax free weekend, like we are experiencing in South Carolina, you can take advantage of that," said Charles Crowson of Walmart.

“I think it is great because it gives us a chance to get all of our supplies and save those couple extra dollars here and there.  It is always good to save a buck here and there", Kim Burke said.

Most of the customers I spoke to on Friday were from South Carolina, however, there were a few from North Carolina and they told me it was well worth the trip across the state line to save a few bucks.

“I think it is absolutely worth it.  I spend close to five hundred to six hundred dollars on back to school for my three kids.  I think it is absolutely worth it," Kimberly Raybon said.

“We need all the school supplies we can get and if we can save a few cents on tax, we will make the drive down here to get those supplies"' Russell Alexander said

For those making the trip from North to South Carolina, there is also one more way they can save.

“I think coming down here which may be a twenty to thirty minute drive, especially since you get gas much cheaper down here, it is absolutely worth the drive,” Kimberly Raybon said.
