Retired Charlotte Fire K9 passes away after battle with cancer

- Members of the Charlotte Fire Department are in mourning following the death of one of their fire dogs.

“The Charlotte Fire Department would like to acknowledge that our beloved ‘Titan’ passed away [Monday] morning after a bout with cancer,” the department said in a news release.

Titan was a retired ATF Accelerant Detection K9.  During his career, fire officials said Titan played an integral part of many fire investigations that helped to confirm and convict many of those involved arson cases.

“Titan not only was used on the fire scenes, he was also used in the fire/arson prevention programs in and around the Charlotte, NC Metro area.  Canine Titan has done demonstrations at several elementary, middle and high schools as well as daycare and church facilities.  To this date, he has done demonstrations for over 20,000 citizens in our area.  He was a real attribute and of course all the kids loved him.”

Titan was 11-years-old.
