Officers risk their lives to pull crash victim from burning car

- Two officers are being commended for their actions after risking their lives to fight a fire and pull a crash victim to safety.

FOX46 reported Tuesday afternoon that Charlotte-Mecklenburg police were called to a serious two vehicle accident on 4th Street near I-277.

The crash knocked down live power lines and caused a huge traffic back up for the evening commute.

CMPD posted to Facebook on Thursday that when Officers Colby and Faulkner arrived, they found one of the vehicles engulfed in flames with the driver still trapped inside.

“Disregarding their own personal safety, officers immediately began fighting the fire with an extinguisher and attempted to extract the driver,” according to a post by CMPD on Facebook. “Officers had to work together to force the door open and were able to pull the driver to safety.”

The post went on to say that the officers’ quick actions likely saved the driver’s life.

The entire rescue was captured by area traffic cameras.

“These officers should be commended for their courageous actions under extreme danger. #service.”
