CAUGHT ON CAM: Store robbed at gunpoint as child just inches away

- Terrifying moments captured on surveillance video. Police said a worker was robbed at gunpoint while her 12-year-old girl is just feet away outside.

"He showed me the gun, pointed it at me, and said if you move, I'll kill you," Verdina Scott said.

Scott said she did everything she was told, only asking the man for one thing.

"I just told him not to hurt my baby on the way out," Scott said.

Scott's 12-year-old daughter was just outside the door when police said a man walked in and pulled a gun on her mother.

"That moment his face, his voice is in my head," Scott said. "In that moment, I seen him shooting me, I don't know why but I felt like he was going to shoot me, I was so terrified."

Scott said she called 911 from the store and told her daughter to run to their house nearby and get help.

"They were hysterical, the mother was scared, the daughter was scared, getting a gun pointed to your face and telling you if you move I'm going to shoot you, really, come on now," Veronica Player said.

Scott believes the man may have followed her daughter home and now knows where she lives.

"She's real scared, don't want to sleep, don't want to sleep here," Scott explained. "I was wondering if we were going to be safe last night in our home, and thanking God that I didn't end up at the morgue, me and her."

Gastonia police believe the robbery at the Kwik Stop on Garrison Blvd. is connected to one earlier in the day Wednesday at a store in Cramerton.

According to Cramerton police, this armed robbery occurred at 245 Market Street around 5 p.m. Wednesday. Witnesses stated a man entered the store, pointed a handgun at the clerk, and demanded money.

The suspect left the store on foot toward Gastonia with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was hurt. Cramerton Police Captain, W.B. Adams, referred to the robbery as a "brazen and desperate act" considering the time of day and number of drivers in the area.

The suspect is described as a black male, about 6'4" to 6'7" in height. He was wearing a blue ball cap, white t-shirt, and dark colored cargo shorts. The suspect possessed a small, black handgun and is believed to be traveling in a black older model Toyota or Honda.

Investigators are asking residents to take action and call them if you recognize this man.
