LANCASTER, SC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A student at Andrew Jackson High School is facing charges after authorities say he brought a loaded gun to class and passed it to another student.
Devin D'Ante Wright, 17 ,of Heath Springs, was arrested and charged Monday after school officials found a loaded .380 semiautomatic pistol along with a jar with less than an ounce of marijuana, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office.
Lancaster County Schools tell FOX 46 Charlotte that a teacher discovered the weapon in the classroom and called the principal. Wright was taken out of the classroom and searched, but no gun was found. Investigators say that Wright placed the items into the other student’s book bag before he was taken to the office and questioned about the pistol.
Wright is charged with carrying a weapon on school property and simple possession of marijuana. His bond is set at $2,500.
No charges have been made against the other student. Both Wright and the other student face expulsion from the school, according to school officials.
