2 children, 3 adults injured in serious Caldwell County wreck

- Two children and three adults were injured in a serious wreck early Thursday morning in Caldwell County, according to the North Carolina Dept. of Public Safety.

The head-on collision happened at 6:50 a.m. Thursday on Dudley Shoals Road near Charlie Little Road.

According to troopers, a 2001 Suzuki driven by Adam Mitchell, 25, of Hudson was traveling west on Dudley Shoals Road when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2018 GMC SUV operated by Sarah Shuffler, 28, of Granite Falls.

Mitchell was flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with serious injuries. A woman, who was in the passenger seat of the Suzuki, was also injured in the crash.

Shuffler, who is a teacher at Oak Hill Elementary, received minor injuries. Three children were in her vehicle. Two received serious but non-life threatening injuries. A 4-month-old in the SUV was not injured.

Troopers said all three children were properly restrained. Speeding and driving left of center on the part of the Suzuki are initial contributing factors in this crash.
