ALBEMARLE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Two people were killed following a three-vehicle crash Thursday night in Albemarle, police said.
The wreck happened at 7:52 p.m. Thursday, August 24 on the Northeast Connector near Moss Springs Road.
Police said Gary Peter Thomas Jr, 35 of Albemarle, was driving a 2010 Dodge passenger car that was traveling southbound and crossed the center line into oncoming traffic striking two other vehicles.
Maria Frances Schumacher, 44, of Albemarle was driving a 2001 KIA passenger vehicle. Colton James Huneycutt, 27, of Gold Hill, was driving a 2016 Chevrolet truck.
Francine Close, 55, of Haverhill MA, who was a passenger in the 2010 Dodge was airlifted to CMC-Main for treatment.
Both Thomas and Schumacher died following the collision, police said.
This remains an open, ongoing investigation.
