WATAUGA COUNTY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Two people have died after a landslide caused a house to collapse in Watauga County Wednesday evening, the Watauga Democrat reports.
Watauga County officials said the house in the 200 block of Pine Ridge Rd. in the Heavenly Mountain subdivision collapsed due to flooding and mudslides around 6:00 p.m.
Multiple emergency crews with the US Army Reserves in Asheville, Boone Fire Department, Watauga County fire departments and others from the surrounding area responded to the scene after receiving reports that two people were trapped inside of the home.
Search and rescue operations were initiated and two victims were located dead in the rubble.
The Watauga County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting the death investigation.
