2 Pineville Elementary staff members suspended after student 'touched inappropriately'

- Charlotte Mecklenburg School officials say the principal and assistant principal of Pineville Elementary School are facing disciplinary action after an 8-year-old girl was reportedly assaulted on the playground.

On Friday, Nov. 9, CMS announced that Principal Brian Doerer and Assistant Principal Kathryn Trotter have been suspended with pay following the incident that police say occurred on Wednesday.

Pineville Police are continuing to investigate after they were told that the girl was allegedly 'touched inappropriately' by another student.

The girl's mother says she does not plan to have her child to return to the school. She told FOX 46 she was upset by the way the administration handled the incident, and called for the principal's resignation.

The mom said she received a call from Principal Doerer saying that there had been an incident with her child in which two boys reportedly pinned her down, pulled her pants down and touched her inappropriately.

She immediately went to the school to pick up her daughter, and began questioning the principal.

"He couldn't give me information if the little boy was going to be back at the school or not, he couldn't give me information as to why the parent wasn't there when I got there. He couldn't really give me nothing besides 'we're taking care of it,'" she said.

A message was sent out to parents saying, in part: "Our students are safe, and this incident isn't connected to any widespread threat."

CMS Southwest Learning Community Superintendent Dr. Steve Esposito is currently leading Pineville Elementary, and officials say an interim principal will be appointed as soon as possible.
