2014 murder suspect arrested in Salisbury after car chase, crash

- A murder suspect has been taken into custody following a car crash and a foot pursuit in Salisbury, according to police. 

John Calvin Sifford III, 29, was recently indicted on 2014 murder charges in Rowan County.  Around 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Salisbury Police located Sifford and attempted to make a traffic stop on Bringle Ferry Rd.

Sifford drove off through a residential property when officers tried to approach him, leading to a short car chase. 

The officers fired shots at the car's tires in an attempt to stop Sifford from escaping. Sifford continued to drive through the residential property until he crashed in front of a house on E. Lafayette St. Sifford then got out of the car and tried to run away on foot. 

Officers were able to catch Sifford, uninjured. Once processed, Sifford will be booked in to the Rowan County Detention Center. Additional charges are pending.
