CHARLOTTE, NC (WJZY) - A Charlotte man is accused of shooting a 14-year-old boy in the parking lot at Carowinds Monday evening, according to York County Sheriff's Office.
Detectives arrested Brock Alexander Bewley-Goodridge, 22, of Charlotte on Tuesday in connection with the shooting.
Bewley-Goodridge allegedly shot the 14-year-old in the bus parking lot of Carowinds after he got involved in an argument that occurred earlier in the day, according to Trent Faris, York County Sheriff's Office, Public Information Officer.
"Bewley-Goodridge recklessly fired shots without regard to the safety to others in an area where multiple people were entering or leaving the theme park," Sheriff Bruce Bryant stated in a press release.
On Monday, Medic 911 reported that a person was being treated for life-threatening injuries following a shooting near Carowinds amusement park.
Carowinds said that at about 7:20 p.m., security officers reported a shooting in the bus parking lot outside the park in the 14500 block of Carowinds Blvd.
When York County deputies arrived on scene, they said the located a 14-year-old boy with two gunshot wounds to his stomach, sitting on the grass near the drop off area.
The victim was taken to Carolinas Medical Center- Main for treatment, according to the sheriff's office. His condition is not known at this time.
Police did not release his name.
A witness told investigators that she had been at a gas station by Wendy's, near Carowinds and was parked by the suspect vehicle, a Dodge Magnum, and saw the male suspect talking about going to the amusement park and assaulting the victim.
Another witness, who was with the victim at the time, told authorities they left Carowinds and there was a physical fight going on between girls. That's when a blue or teal Dodge Magnum pulled up and a light skin, black male with dreads got out and fired numerous shots, hitting the victim, deputies said.
The investigation is being handled by CMPD and York County Sheriff's Office.
