York County to spray for mosquitoes after 2nd confirmed Zika case

- York County will conduct mosquito control efforts in order to prevent the spread of the Zika virus, according to the County Managers Office.

Spraying will begin around sunset Tuesday, Sept. 13 in the Hickory Grove area.

A contractor will be using a back pack with a synthetic insecticide to suppress the mosquito population, according to a news release.

The mosquito control efforts are in response to York County receiving confirmation from the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) of a travel associated case of Zika virus in a person who traveled outside of the country.

This is the second travel related case reported in York County.

York County Manager’s Office and York County Emergency Management will be discussing the mosquito spraying at a press conference at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

FOX46 will be attending the press conference and will have the latest online and at FOX 46 News at 6 p.m.
