Football player charged in crash that killed North Meck HS cheerleader

- Warrants were obtained against a senior football player, Kalvin Raquez McCollum, 17, on Tuesday, charging him with misdemeanor death by vehicle in a crash that killed his girlfriend, 14-year-old En'Joneah Reel, according to Huntersville Police.

One vehicle was traveling northbound and another vehicle was traveling southbound on McCoy Road, according to Huntersville Police Captain Johnston. The driver of the northbound vehicle ran off the right side of the road, came back over onto the road and crossed over the center line, according to Johnston. That's when the passenger door of the northbound vehicle impacted the southbound vehicle's front bumper.

McCollum was an unlicensed driver, according to police.

The warrants were requested after an investigation by Huntersville Police and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's office.

McCollum turned himself in to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, was processed and released on a $5,000 bond, according to police.
