Man struck by vehicle on I-77 after attemping to flee from police

- A man wanted on multiple charges was struck by a vehicle on Interstate-77 Tuesday night as he was attempting to flee from police. 

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, they were trying to apprehend Ronald Ealey, 55, around 10 p.m. Tuesday. 

Officers said Ealey had four outstanding orders for arrest on charges including possession of cocaine, possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia and resist/obstruct/delay.

Ealey had just been spotted by officers around the intersection of Nations Ford Rd. at Red Roof Dr. but had entered into some woods before he could be arrested. 

Officers set up a perimeter around the area, at which time Ealey attempted to escape by running across I-77. As he was attempting to cross the median he was struck by a vehicle. 

Ealey was transported to CMC-Main where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. Troopers from the NCSHP responded to the scene to conduct the accident investigation.
