Body of missing Catawba County man found, two brothers charged with murder

- The Catawba County Sheriff's Office said the body of a missing elderly man was discovered Wednesday afternoon after being missing for nearly four days. 

The body of Benny Daniels, 78, was found in the woods behind his home around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 12. Daniels was last seen on October 8 near 18th Street NW in Hickory. 

Deputies said there was evidence of a break-in inside his property. 

Two brothers, Thomas Gregory Ball, 38 of Hickory, and Rodney Adam Ball, 27 of Cedar Bluff, Va., are charged with murder and concealment of death. 

The pair appeared before District Court Judge Wes W. Barkley on Thursday in connection with the death of 78-year-old Benny Daniels of Long View.

Judge Barkley appointed Ted Cummings as provisional defense counsel for the brothers. The suspects have a probable cause hearing set for Nov. 3, 2016.
