CMPD looking for suspect involved in NW Charlotte Family Dollar robbery

- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are searching for a person who fired one shot into a Family Dollar store during an attempted robbery Wednesday in northwest Charlotte.

When officers arrived at 542 Valleydale Road they determined that the person fired at least one shot during the robbery.

CMPD told FOX 46 Charlotte the suspect came in with a gun and a bag asking the clerk to fill it with money. The two got into some sort of argument. As the two fought over the bag, the gun reportedly went off and that's when the suspect reportedly bit the clerk on the arm.

Police said the suspect was last seen taking off towards the woods behind the Family Dollar. K-9 Units and CMPD’s helicopter searched the area but no one was found.

Officers on bikes were also spotted patrolling the nearby area and neighbors were told to stay inside.

The Family Dollar will be closed for the rest of the day, according to CMPD.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers.
