Teen thought to be in Mexico charged in the murder of Sandy Lee

- New details in a high-profile case that began as a missing persons case. FOX 46 Charlotte has learned a teenager has now been charged in the murder of Sandy Lee.

Police said Alex Castillo, 17, killed 23-year-old Sandy Lee in August. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police announced Friday they now have enough information to charge the teen in the crime.

"We have now signed warrants for murder for Mr. Alexandro Castillo. He's still outstanding at this time. We believe he is in Mexico, but we don't have the exact whereabouts of where he is," Captain Cecil Brisbon said.

Captain Brisbon with CMPD said this all started as a missing persons case when the three young co-workers from Charlotte Showmars disappeared in early August.

"The very troubling thing with this case is that everybody involved is very young. You had a 23-year-old, a 20-year-old, and a 17-year-old. You have all these young individuals whose families believed they were missing. Now, you have one who has to deal with the fact that their loved one is not coming back and two others have to deal with the fact their loved ones have been involved in some criminal activity," Brisbon said.

FOX 46 Charlotte first reported on Thursday Ahmia Feaster, 19, is now charged with stealing Lee's car and being an accomplice to murder. Feaster was arrested in Harris County, Texas near Houston in mid-October.

CMPD believes the alleged killer, Castillo, is still on the run in Mexico.

"We've had really good assistance from our federal partners and out federal partners have relationships on the international level. We hope those relationships pay off and we can bring Mr. Castillo back and hold him accountable for what he has done," Brisbon explained.

Police discovered Le's body a week after the trio disappeared in the woods along Robinson Church Road in Cabarrus County in early August.
