LINCOLN COUNTY, NC (FOX 46) - A Lincoln County deputy has been fired after she accidentally shot her 11-year-old daughter over the weekend, officials said.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office confirmed Monday that Misty Flowers has been terminated.
"I find gross negligence and the disregard for the safety of others was displayed in the incident Saturday night," said Sheriff David Carpenter.
Flowers, 38, who worked as a deputy at the Lincoln County courthouse, was at her home Saturday night on Loop Road when she accidently fired the gun. The bullet went through a wall and hit her daughter, according to officials.
Lincoln deputies were called to the home just before 11:30 p.m. and immediately started first-aid on the child.
The girl was taken to CHS-Lincoln and later airlifted to CHS Main in Charlotte. According to deputies, she underwent surgery and is in stable condition.
"This is a very tragic situation for all involved, the officer, her family, her career and everyone that has been touched by this," the sheriff went on to say. "We continue to pray for healing of the child and the entire family."
Flowers had been with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office since 2015. She previously worked for the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office before that.
The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
