Woman killed, child suffers severe injuries in Huntersville crash

- One person is dead and multiple injuries have been reported after a multi-vehicle crash Thursday morning in Huntersville, police said.

The wreck happened about 7 a.m. on Sam Furr Road at the intersection of Westmoreland Road.

According to Huntersville police, three vehicles were involved in the crash - a passenger car, a pick-up truck and a cargo van. 

The driver of the passenger car, Dana Knox, was pronounced dead on scene and her 3-year-old daughter, Avery, was transported to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The two drivers of the cargo van and pick-up truck were treated for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Huntersville Fire Department told FOX 46 that Sam Furr Road was shut down for an extended period of time. Traffic was re-routed and forced to make a U-turn at Willow Breeze Lane.

The accident is still under investigation. No information on the cause of the accident.

This was the second of two crashes that caused major delays Thursday morning in Huntersville. 

The first wreck was reported a little after 6:30 a.m. when a car ran off the road on Beatties Ford Road at McCoy Road causing major delays in Huntersville.

Road closure caused major problems for morning commuters, including Long Creek Elementary School students. 

Medic says two people were transported with minor injuries.
