K-9 Seminar Keeps Officers Sharp

- Around 50 officers from more than dozen states are in the Charlotte area this week as the Matthews Police Department is hosting a K-9 training session through Thursday, November 10th.

Deputy Debra Wallace with the Broward County Sheriff's Office in Florida and her nearly four-year-old Bloodhound Wyatt are in town taking part in the seminar.

" We try to get new perspective and additional eyes so if they see something we might need to improve on they can help us," said Deputy Wallace.

The week's events allows officers to receive their certification and to keep their skills sharp.

"It's extremely benefinicial. Wyatt's job is to save lives. We have to be tuned up because if we get that lost child we can immediately go out and be on the case," said Deputy Wallace.

As for the goal of the week, it's for these officers to use the real life scenarios to practice live-threatening situations.
