Man faces charges after targeting, robbing woman near SouthPark Mall

- In a case where one man is now facing some pretty serious accusations after reportedly committing an armed robbery - targeting a woman near the SouthPark Mall.

Alexis Rodriguez, 32, was caught Tuesday night and is now facing robbery and kidnapping charges.

CMPD told FOX 46 Charlotte Rodriguez is currently in the hospital being treated for a pre-existing condition. So he's not yet officially been arrested.

The bustling and busy traffic on Sharon Road in SouthPark didn't deter Rodriguez from committing an alleged robbery and kidnapping.

"It's like an old community. Everything is great, I haven't no trouble," said one community member.

CMPD said around 3:30 a.m. Monday a woman pulled into a Shell Gas Station near SouthPark Mall to kill her car tire with air. That's when Rodriguez approached her armed with a gun - robbing her and forcing her inside the car.

He demanded she drive to a nearby ATM to withdraw money. According to a CMPD police report, he made off with $50 and left the scene.

"It surprised me because it's very quiet over here. That comes as a shocker!" another neighbor said.

In fact, CMPD Crime Statistics within a mile of the Shell Gas Station over the last month show no violent crimes, other than a residential burglary on October 24. The rest of the map shows fraud and theft cases.

The robbery on Monday, now putting those who frequent the SouthPark Mall area on alert, making some more vigilant about their surroundings.
