5-year-old girl shot inside vehicle, taken to hospital in serious condition

- A 5-year-old girl has been transported to the hospital after she was shot while inside a vehicle by another person in a passing car near uptown Charlotte.

The shooting happened at 9:16 p.m. Thursday, November 10 at the intersection of 12th Street and N. College Street. 

Upon arrival, officers located a 5-year-old girl suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was taken to Carolinas Medical Center where she is currently listed in serious condition. 

CMPD said initial information indicates that the child was in a vehicle with three adults and one other child traveling on 12th Street at N. College Street when a vehicle pulled up next to them. 

A suspect inside of that vehicle then fired multiple shots into the victim vehicle, striking the child. The driver of the child's vehicle drove to the 1500 block of N. Tryon Street where they called 911 for assistance. 

Preliminary information indicates that one of the men in the child's vehicle and the suspect are known to one another.  The suspect vehicle is a silver Nissan Sentra.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police remain on scene at N. Tryon Street and W. 12th Street at the corner of N. College Street. 

Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there were any additional witnesses to this incident.
