6-hour standoff ends with 1 person dead in Cornelius

- A more than six hour police standoff in Cornelius ended Tuesday with police officers discovering the resident deceased inside the home. 

The incident happened on Tuesday, November 22. Police said they were called to Flying Jib Rd. and America Cup Rd. in the Peninsula for a welfare check. 

After a 6.5 hour standoff, the North Meck SWAT Team made entry and found the resident deceased. No additional information will be released at this time due to notification of next of kin, police say. 

The Cornelius Police Department said they would like to thank the North Meck SWAT Team, Davidson Police Department, Huntersville Police Department, Cornelius-Lemley Fire Rescue and Mecklenburg EMS for assistance on scene.
