89-year-old woman delivers Thanksgiving meal to Charlotte Fire Station

- This Thanksgiving, a long-standing tradition continues thanks to a very special 89 year-old Charlotte woman. For decades now, she's been making a special delivery to her local fire station for the holidays.

89-year-old TD Elder has a boisterous personality. She's a staple in the Derita community. Elder has along West Sugar Creek Road for 60 years. And she feels right at home at her local Fire Station No. 22.

For nearly three decades, TD has been delivering thank you notes and a Thanksgiving meal to show her thanks for the firefighters.

TD keeps coming back, year after year because, "We love first responders. When you call them and even don't call them, they are there. They come to see about us. They bring the truck through. Even if they see smoke they do," said Elder.

For years TD and the Rockwell neighborhood in Derita used their ovens and stovetops to cook the turkey dinner. But after new city regulations, the community now partners with Marie's Grill local restaurant.

"Being in the fire service, emergency services, the military, we're away from our families a lot of times for these holidays. When you have a family here at work like we do and people in the community who support us, it makes up for having to be away from your family and being with your other family," said Jeremy Poole, a Derita native and Fire Captain at Station No. 22.
